Home>Major Activities>Seminars and Workshops in 2011>Increased agricultural nitrogen circulation in Asia: technological challenge to mitigate agricultural N emissions

Date
September 27-28, 2011
Venue
NTU, Taipei, Taiwan, ROC
Co-sponsors
National Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences (NIAES), Japan;
Department of Agricultural Chemistry, National Taiwan University
Background / Highlights of Activity

In the era of climate change and environmental degradation, there is a need to better understand the nitrogen balance and nitrogen use efficiency in agricultural lands. This international seminar, sponsored by NIAES, Japan, NTU and FFTC was attended by 50 participants from nine countries. It primarily aimed to promote a better understanding of how much anthropogenic N is loaded to the environment, particularly from agriculture including supply and consumption of food in Asia and to grasp the entire N budgeting in each Asian country to establish a mitigation strategy of the N load to the environment for the entire region as well as in each country.
