- Background / Highlights of Activity
In 2013, the Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC) expanded the scope of its information network activities to include agricultural policy issues in the region through AP (Asia-Pacific Information Platform on Agricultural Policy) project. This is mainly because the Asia-Pacific region lacks relevant agencies or organizations to provide a mechanism or platform for sharing and exchanging the dynamic information on national agricultural policies although the countries in this region have various challenges to face regarding their own agricultural policies under the era of trade liberalization.
FFTC initiated the AP project targeting four countries, namely Japan, Korea, Philippines and Taiwan. FFTC has launched the AP website and initiated uploading the information on relevant agricultural policies of the aforementioned four countries. The information collated is composed of nine categories such as overview of agricultural policy, trade liberalization countermeasures, agricultural land policies, farmers’ retirement system, agricultural disaster insurance, food security, production and marketing policies and so forth. Selected information was translated into Chinese for COA magazines.
This year, FFTC extended its targeted countries to eight including China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam in addition to the aforementioned four countries.
This workshop aims to review and appraise the current status of the AP project and improve data quality and database structure.
•On-going AP project is reviewed and evaluated
•Further improvement is made in data legitimacy and increased user-friendliness of database and website.
