Asia Pacific information platform on agricultural policy (Year 3)

The third year of the AP project further saw the development of the AP website, facing the challenge of sustaining the agricultural policy articles submitted by the contracted partners. As of November 30, 2015, there have been 187 articles uploaded between December 2014 and November, 2015 with 17 articles translated into Chinese. Total accumulative number of hits is over 800,000, with 2,000 average hits between September and November.

The number of registered visitors as of November 12, 2015 is 1,760, with Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia as the top three countries with the most number of registered visitors. Eighty-eight percent of the registered visitors who evaluated the AP website said it is easy to access while 90% thought that the articles  are easy to understand and 95% said the articles are informative.

Major findings and recommendations:
•    Enhance the increase of registered visitors from Europe, Japan and Korea;
•    Build up the candidate list of contracted partner from Myanmar;
•    Set up the auditing standard of contracted partners according to their achievements;
•    Conduct more in-depth data survey and studies to know more about the information needs of the website customers;
•    Increase the number of articles related to Agricultural Finance;
•    Encourage advisory committee to provide other topics related to local markets and products, agricultural management, and other new policies;
•    Conduct further data analysis and set up a general statistical standard; and
•    Send follow-up letters to authors whenever new online articles are published; and

Screen grabs of two articles from the actual FFTC-AP website. Now on its third year, more articles on various facets of agricultural policies are uploaded on an almost daily basis in the website. As of November 15, 2015, there are 1,750 registered visitors in the website with Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia as the top three countries with the most number of registered visitors.

Many articles in the FFTC-AP website tackle the various facets of trading agricultural goods—from trade liberalization countermeasures to agricultural marketing policy and import regulation and quarantine. Based on visitors feedback, scholars and researchers find the website to be very useful and informative.

Last year, FFTC gathered all contracted partners of the FFTC-AP website who came from different countries to discuss ways and means on how to enhance and improve the articles. Some of the recommendations were to increase the number of articles related to agricultural finance, local markets and products, agricultural management, etc.
