Around 70 participants of the recently concluded Asian Food and Agribusiness Conference held in Taipei came from 13 APO member countries. There were 15 resource persons from the Asia Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI)/Asia-Pacific Consortium on Agricultural Biotechnology (APCoAB), Republic of China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and USA made thematic presentations on various aspects of biotechnology and agribusiness.
The Asian Productivity Organization (APO), in collaboration with the Council of Agriculture (COA), China Productivity Center (CPC), and Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC) recently held the Asian Food and Agribusiness Conference 2013: Biotechnology and Global Competitiveness in Taipei City.

About 70 participants from 13 APO member countries (Republic of China, India, Indonesia, IR Iran, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam) attended the conference. Fifteen resource persons from the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI)/Asia-Pacific Consortium on Agricultural Biotechnology (APCoAB), Republic of China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and USA made thematic presentations on various aspects of biotechnology and agribusiness. The conference consisted of thematic sessions, open forums, panel discussions, poster exhibition, and visit to Bio Taiwan 2013 exhibition.

One important outcome of the conference was the widespread view among experts and participants from APO countries that biotechnology is one important tool to help APO countries meet the challenges arising from climate change, natural resource constraints, food security and sustainable development. Moreover, experts shared the many varied, proven applications of biotechnology ranging from biofertilizers to biotech (genetically modified) crops.
