Taiwan's Agri Officials Visit the Philippines


Taking off from the invitation of Secretary Proceso Alcala, the Chief of the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture, a nine member Taiwanese delegation  headed by COA Deputy Minister James Chih-i-Sha, recently visited the Philippines to formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and explore possible areas of agricultural collaboration between Taiwan and the Philippines.


The four-day visit of the Taiwanese delegation to the Philippines started with a trip to Los Baños, Laguna where Deputy Minister Sha signed an MOU between  COA and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). They also visited IRRI’s rice gene bank, where the largest collection of rice germplasm in the world is located. The following day, the delegation headed for Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, where they visited the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC)  and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Center.


A highlight of the Taiwanese agri delegation trip to the Philippines is the conduct of the 6th Meeting of the Taiwan-Philippines Technical Working Group on Agriculture and Fisheries, which eventually led to the signing of the minutes of the meeting.


The delegation list includes Dr. Yu-Tsai Huang, Director of FFTC, Dr. Junne-jih Chen, Director General, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), Dr. Pai-po Lee, Deputy Secretary General, International Cooperation Development Fund (ICDF),  Mr. Ching-cheng Ju, CEO, National Animal Industry Foundation, Ms. Jennifer Yi-chun Kuo, General Manager, Grobest Holdings Limited, Mr. Jack Ku-han, General Manager, First El Presidente Mfg., and Grobest Feeds Philippines, Inc. and Ms. Ming-chuan Chung, Specialist, Department of International Affairs of COA. The Taiwan agri delegation trip to the Philippines was made possible through the assistance of the DA, the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and FFTC.
