THE GALES OF CHANGE have not spared the agricultural community from Nature’s wrath and the volatility of market forces. In Asia and the Pacific region, farmers, researchers, extension workers, leaders of country governments and members of the private sector are all grappling with the effects of global warming and climate change, new emerging plant diseases, food safety, water scarcity, agricultural waste losses, etc. These are the issues of our times and they continue to hastily snowball causing constant bruises to a vulnerable sector.
It is in this light that the Food and Fertilizer Technology Center or FFTC truly becomes more significant in this time and age because through its mission of providing timely and relevant agricultural technologies to small-scale farmers, more Asians in the agricultural sector are able to improve their agricultural productivity, thereby creating a ripple of effects that ultimately translates to a higher quality of life.
After more than 40 years of its meaningful existence as an international agricultural center, we at FFTC are constantly working to be in tune to the call of the times in order to be more relevant to our target clientele. This means being more aggressive in using the Information Communication Technology (ICT) in order to reach more people through our information dissemination activities. Last year, we’ve jazzed up our website so that we can also be more appealing to the younger generation, who we believe will be the future users and recipients of our treasure trove of information on Asian agriculture. We are still a work in progress but we will continue to explore more avenues so that we can be more responsive and interactive.
